A First Step Towards New Partnerships

Recently, Elizabeth and Benjamin, founders of SmolBoss, attended State of Play, an event where many charities and community organisations came together to share about their work and recruit volunteers.

For the SmolBoss founders, this was more than just a visit. It was their first real networking session.

They took the opportunity to speak with different organisations, find out more about the causes they support, and better understand the kind of help volunteers are needed for. It was a valuable chance to learn directly from people on the ground about what charities do, what challenges they face, and where support is most needed.

For SmolBoss, this matters. As the platform continues to grow, Elizabeth and Benjamin hope to reach out to more partners in the new year and find meaningful ways to support community efforts. Attending State of Play gave them a clearer picture of how partnerships can begin, not just through ideas, but through listening, asking questions, and building genuine connections.

The event was also an important opportunity for them to share what SmolBoss is about. As young founders, they introduced their platform, spoke about the kind of projects they have done, and practised their elevator pitch in real conversations. It was a small but significant milestone in learning how to communicate their vision with confidence.

We are especially grateful to the charities and organisations who took the time to speak with them so warmly and patiently. Even though Elizabeth and Benjamin are children, these organisations welcomed their questions, shared generously about their work, and gave them a meaningful first experience of networking and partnership-building.

This may have been Elizabeth and Benjamin’s first networking session, but it felt like the beginning of something bigger. A small step, but a meaningful one, towards new partnerships, deeper understanding, and bigger ways to serve the community.
