Meet Amira!

Today, we are excited to introduce two inspiring sisters, Amira and Amelia, whose quiet dedication to volunteering is a beautiful example of how small hands can make a big difference.

Amira, the elder sister, is a creative soul who finds joy in crafts and helping others. Amelia, the younger of the two, is an animal lover with a gentle heart, always ready to shower love on every creature she meets. Together, they are growing up not just as sisters, but as compassionate changemakers.

Amira — The Crafty Helper with a Heart for Seniors

Amira’s volunteering journey started when she was just 3 years old, occasionally following her mother to Friends of the Disabled Society. She would quietly engage in simple crafts like Hama beads, giving small but warm smiles that touched the hearts of the special youths she met.

As she grew older, her acts of kindness extended beyond crafts. During visits to nursing homes in Medan, Indonesia, Amira, alongside her family, reached out to seniors with thoughtful gestures, greeting them warmly and offering support.

Her heart for the seniors continue back home in Singapore, where Amira found her happy place at NTUC Health Nursing Home, Chai Chee. Despite her packed schedules with music and ballet classes, she always looks forward to their monthly volunteering visits. Whether it’s distributing food, singing along with the seniors, or assisting in animal petting sessions, Amira serves with a calm and steady presence.

For Amira, crafts are more than just an art activity, they are a way to connect with others. During a special workshop at The Lighthouse by SunCare, Amira and her sister Amelia joined other children to build a paper ball-run designed to roll as long as possible.

Amira naturally gravitated towards planning and teamwork. She enjoyed brainstorming with her new friends, figuring out how to build longer tracks, and troubleshooting when the paper tunnel didn’t work as expected. Her patience and collaborative spirit helped the group embrace the challenge, turning simple craft materials into a shared accomplishment.

For Amira, this wasn’t just about the ball-run. It was about working together, problem-solving, and finding joy in small successes.

One moment that especially stayed with Amira was during a visit to Lentor Residence, where she joyfully handed out plushies to seniors. She said, “I love walking around giving things to the elderly. Each time, they would return with a happy smile.”

Amira reminds us that small, simple actions like handing out a handmade craft or greeting a senior, can build bridges of warmth and connection. Her journey is still growing, but she’s already leaving little ripples of kindness wherever she goes.

A Mother’s Reflection

Amira and Amelia’s mother has always believed in showing her daughters the importance of giving back. Through her work as a facilitator, she brings them along to meet underprivileged children, special needs youths, and seniors, teaching them to see and care for people from all walks of life.

She hopes these small volunteering moments will instill in them a heart for the community, to be selfless, observant, and kind. Watching Amira’s thoughtful nature and Amelia’s cheerful energy at work, she feels proud knowing they are growing into caring individuals.
