Meet Amelia!

At SmolBoss, we celebrate Smol Friends – children who take small steps to make a big difference. Today, we’re proud to feature Amira and Amelia, two sisters who’ve been quietly serving their community with kindness and care.

Meet Amelia

When travel restrictions were lifted, Amelia had the chance to visit her maternal grandparents in Medan, Indonesia, alongside her sister Amira. One of the most memorable parts of their trip wasn’t just spending time with family, but visiting an elderly home, a place where many seniors live quietly, often overlooked by the outside world.

When Amelia visited Medan, Indonesia, the first thing she noticed wasn’t the buildings or the busy street, it was the seniors in the nursing homes who looked like they needed a little extra sunshine in their day.

With her bright and cheerful energy, Amelia didn’t hesitate to bring a smile to everyone she met. Whether it was waving enthusiastically or chirping a happy “Hi Auntie!” and “Hello Uncle!”, Amelia’s presence lit up the room. Her playful chatter and curious questions made the elderly laugh, even those who rarely smiled.

While her elder sister, Amira finds joy in crafts, Amelia brings a different kind of magic — a special connection with animals. Amelia is never shy about giving love to community cats and even lovingly petted a pregnant stray cat to sleep.

During monthly visits to NTUC Chai Chee Nursing Home, Amelia can be seen moving back and forth, serving food to seniors with quiet determination. She never complains, even when tasks get repetitive.

But what truly lights her up is the animal petting sessions. Amelia especially adores rabbits and is eagerly planning to bring her beloved hamster, Pip, to meet the seniors.

She dreams of seeing Pip bring smiles to the elderly, just like she does when petting the community cats. Amelia once gently petted a pregnant stray cat to sleep, a testament to her calm and nurturing nature.

During a visit to Lentor Residence, where she joined her mom and sister to give out soft plush toys to the elderly. To Amelia, these weren’t just toys, they were little “hug-buddies” meant to bring comfort and smiles.

With a spring in her step and her signature sunshine grin, Amelia took her “plushie delivery mission” very seriously. She greeted every senior she met with cheerful hellos, ensuring that no one was left out of her joyful rounds.

But her nurturing nature truly shone through when they reached a frail-looking elderly uncle sitting quietly by himself. Amelia, always observant, noticed how thin he was and blurted out in her candid, caring way,
“The uncle looks so skinny, he needs more calcium.”

Amelia’s story shows that a kind heart doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. Her gentle presence, love for animals, and willingness to help are making a quiet but meaningful impact on everyone she meets.

Through their volunteering journeys, Amira and Amelia are not only giving back to the community but also spending meaningful time with their mother, who has been a guiding light in their experiences which are shaping their perspectives, teaching them to be selfless, caring, and mindful of others.
