Craft, Culture and Care

We did something really special today — we spent the afternoon at Goodlife Makan, a senior activity centre making aromatic tablets (香牌) with a group of seniors. It was our first time learning about this traditional Chinese craft, and it smelled amazing the whole time!

A long time ago, people would carry them around to smell good or calm their minds. Now, they also help us feel connected to Chinese culture and tradition.

Here’s what we did:

  1. Mixed the sandalwood and cedarwood powder with water to make a soft dough
  2. Pressed the dough into beautiful molds
  3. Carefully released the tablets and set them out to dry

After the crafting fun, we helped with packing and cleaning up to leave the space neat and tidy.

And yes — we each got to make one too, sitting beside the seniors and learning step by step together. Some of us even exchanged our tablets with the seniors as little gifts.

One senior was so cute — she even used the dough to shape a mini curry puff instead of a tablet! We all had a good laugh.

It felt really nice to slow down, use our hands, and do something peaceful together. Even though we’re from different generations, we connected through creativity, culture, and laughter.

This is what Smol Boss and Friends is all about: learning, sharing, and making the world a little brighter, one small act at a time.

Can’t wait for the next experience!
