A Sweet Treat for Seniors

My brother and I love making frozen yogurt at home with our instant ice-cream maker. It’s our favorite after-school treat! We get to pick all sorts of yummy toppings and flavors—sometimes we go crazy with sprinkles! 🌈

But today was extra special. Instead of just making frozen yogurt for ourselves, we taught the seniors at the Active Aging Centre how to make one!

Right after school, we brought all the ingredients and set everything up. There were dried mangoes, almonds, oranges, and of course—lots of colorful sprinkles (our favorite!). The yogurt wasn’t sweetened, so we gave the seniors two choices: honey or strawberry jam. Some of them liked it extra sweet, while others kept it simple.

Once they mixed and decorated their yogurts, we placed them in a box with dry ice to freeze quickly. While waiting, we had another fun activity—crafting mini sundae cups out of air-dry clay! I was in charge of teaching the seniors how to shape and decorate their cups. It was my first time leading a group of seniors all by myself, and I had to think on my feet! At one point, the clay was too soft and sticky, so I had to knead it for a while before it was ready to use.

It was such a busy afternoon, but also super fun! Seeing the seniors enjoy their frozen yogurt and showing off their adorable clay creations made me so happy. Our hearts (and tummies!) were definitely full!
